Kicking Around in the Boot Heel!

Steele, Missouri
Where the Walker Family was born an raised!
Unfortunately the only Walker still living in Steele is Kendall's oldest sister Gwen.  Gwen has had fibo myalgia for many years which keeps her in a lot of pain and prevents her from traveling to see us.  Because there is no easy way to get to the southeast corner of the state, you have to go all the way to St. Louis, then drive down to the bottom of Missouri.  It's an 8 hour drive one way, who would have thought you could drive 8 hours and still be in the same state.  Needless to say we don't make the trek very often, so this trip was long overdue.  Aunt Gwen is just meeting Garrett for the first time, and she hasn't seen
Ashlyn and Preston in years.

Here are Ashlyn and Preston with Gwen's boyfriend Danny. This is the first time Preston's even been to Steele to meet Gwen and Danny, and Ashlyn was so young she didn't even remember them.  It was great to finally make it back down here to see everyone and reminisce all the memories.
Ashlyn and Preston were so excited to ride Gwen and Danny's four wheelers.  I think Daddy was equally thrilled, its been awhile since he got on one of these off road bikes.

Gwen and Ashlyn road all through the fields keeping up with Daddy and Preston on their bikes.  They loved riding so much, they stayed on those four wheelers all weekend.

Don't worry, Garrett didn't miss out on all the fun, he got to sit on one before the weekend was over.  Needless to say at 3 months old, he spent most of his time inside with Grandpa and Grandma Walker.
The fun never ends, Gwen and Danny took Ashlyn off roading in the jeep.  A big deal to our city slicker kids who had never been a jeep before. The idea of driving around with out doors or a roof is pretty exciting stuff to a 4 and 2 year old!
Daddy took us to his old highschool, South Pemiscott to relive the memories.  They were known as the bulldogs, so we had to get a picture of all three of his posterity on the infamous mascot.  It was fun to see his name carved in the graduation sidewalk and we played around on all the very old school equipment.
We made sure to see and do everything we could while in the area, who knows when we'll be back to these parts again:)  We took a day and drove to Memphis, Tennessee to visit Grandpa Walker's sister Pauline Britton (pic above).  Uncle Raymond, her husband has already passed on, so she lives with her son and his wife.  While visiting at their house trying to keep the kids from destroying anything Garrett pooped all over Grandpa Walker!  Thank goodness it didn't get the furniture; however, it was quite the
ordeal to get them both cleaned up.  At one point Kendall and I are trying to balance him over the sink trying to clean him up without ruining their towels or bathroom.
On our way home from Memphis we stopped at the nursing home to see Doris Norrid, Grandpa's other sister.  Of course, the adults wanted to visit, so that left me to entertain the kids which is no easy task at a nursing home.  It sure brightened everyone else's day to see three rambunctious kids running around the home, every person we passed commented on how cute they were.  I thought we should take our show on the road and make it a habit of visiting nursing homes and entertaining the elderly.
Last but not least, we dropped in on church Sunday morning.  They are always excited when Kendall comes to visit and see all of his kids.  Reliving the memories is always fun, for the adults anyway.  Were so glad we were able to come back and hope we don't wait so long before we do it again!
