We celebrated Ashlyn's 3rd birthday on Saturday, July 11th, 2009! It was a great party with family and friends, but no rain and plenty of humidity for our paint projects outside. Mommy made her a cake shaped like a doll and decorated it as a "princess".
The party started with everyone sweating to death outside. If that wasn't hot enough we put paint shirts on the kids so they could have some messy fun, only some of them were wise enough to refuse the extra layer of clothing! It didn't seem to slow them down, they ran from one paint project to another and found time to jump in the bounce house whenever they could.
For the Paint Party, we spray painted a birthday banner for Ashlyn. I just put paint in different types of spray bottles and let the kids go graffiti. Then we rolled marbles and matchbox cars around in a box with paint to make some impressive works of art. We also put small plates with paint in a salad spinner and let them give it a whirl. Why not keep going until they are completely covered in paint. We layed out a long roll of paper on the ground and let them walk in paint and then all over the paper. Only some of them were ready for this kind of mess. I think they enjoyed washing their feet off in the water bucket even more. Especially Ashlyn's friend Ethan who decided it was too hot to paint and tried swimming in the foot water bucket.
The best part was when we moved back inside to the A/C for cake and ice cream. Ashlyn had lots of help from her friends opening presents. Some of them kept trying to convince us that it was their birthday. Everyone played nice and a great time was had by all.
It is amazing how fast they grow up, my baby is already three years old. I am so grateful for her special spirit, sense of humor, and sweet words. Ashlyn has her Daddy's memory and sense of direction. She knows just when to give a hug or say something to melt your heart, although she also knows when to push your buttons:) Ashlyn is friends with everyone, and very social. She rarely wants to stay home always asking to go somewhere,or just "one more store". Her favorite thing to do right now is watch home videos of herself as a baby. You can often find her talking on the "phone", even if at the moment she is only talking to the palm of her hand. Ashlyn has always been very brave, sleeping upstairs in her own room, or riding any ride they will let her on at Silver Dollar City. Although if she scrapes her knee or gets any kind of injury she'll complain for days and expect sympathy for weeks. She loves to sing songs and entertains everyone with our favorite, "I Love to See the Temple". According to Ashlyn they are building "her" temple here in Kansas City and she will open the doors all by herself.
I love you Ashlyn, Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ashlyn!!!! Those three years have indeed gone by FAST! :)
Awe...I'm sorry I missed it. Sounds like lots of fun. Ashlyn is growing up so fast. You didn't mention how at the end of her Temple song she says "This is my sacred booty". A door a bull. Give her squeezes for me. Can't wait to see her again.
